If you find yourself with an abundance of lemons (or in need of a cocktail to celebrate Mardi Gras today tonight) this is a fantastic way to use them. It’s a light, refreshing beverage that’s sure to add a little sparkle to your day . . . in more ways than one. Cheers!
Sparkling Special Lemonade
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Makes: 1 cocktail
Ingredients
- 1 Lemon
- 1 1/2 ounces (43 grams or 3 tablespoons) Vodka¹
- 1 teaspoon (4 grams) Granulated White Sugar
- 1 cup (6 ounces/170 grams, by weight) Ice Cubes
- 3/4 cup (6 ounces/170 grams) Sparkling Water
Instructions
Cut a slit about half way through the center of the lemon; place in a microwave-safe bowl. Warm the lemon in a microwave for about 30 seconds. Juice lemon, strain out pulp if desired. Measure 1 1/2 ounces (43 grams or 3 tablespoons) juice, reserve any extra for another use.
Into a tall glass (16 ounce capacity), combine lemon juice, vodka and sugar. Stir well to dissolve sugar completely. Add ice; stir until lemon juice mixture is cold. Pour in sparkling water; stir just until combined. Serve immediately.
notes
¹ I use Monopolowa Potato Vodka. It’s both good and cheap—only ten bucks for a liter at Trader Joe’s in Northern California. Update: Since June 15th I’ve used Tito’s Vodka, it’s more expensive — about $18 for 750mL — but far smoother than my former choice.
